About

Jayesh Patil

Wildlife photographer and writer. Field notes from Kaziranga, Laikipia, and the Western Ghats.

I am a wildlife photographer and writer based out of India. I keep a notebook in one pocket and a camera in the other and I am usually behind on both. This site is where the trail notes, the long-form pieces, and the photo sets all live in one place.

Three formats. Dispatches are short — a paragraph, a sketch, what caught my eye on the trail today. Essays are the long pieces, the ones that needed weeks of revision before they were ready. Galleries are the keepers from one trip, with the story behind each frame.

Why this site exists: friends and family kept asking where to follow the work. WhatsApp groups don't archive well. Instagram compresses photos into oblivion. So this is the permanent record, the thing that stays put even when the social platforms move on.

What I shoot

Mostly birds. A lot of leopards. Mammals when the light's right. I've been lucky to spend time with the rhinos in Kaziranga, the wild dogs in Laikipia, and the endemic warblers of the Western Ghats. The work is slow. The waiting is the work.
